Day 3 - Sept. 26th - LA to Beijing

well, it was an adventure to say the least: 10.5 hour flight to Tokyo with a 2 hour layover in Japan then a 3.5 hour flight to Beijing...the team was greeted at the Beijing Airpoprt by hords of photographers and television cameras. Each member received a huge bouquet of flowers and we were photographed from every angle...that was followed by a 30 minute bus ride to our hotel where we were again mobbed by dozens and dozens of volunteers, hotel staff and all manner of people falling all over themselves to attend to our every need.

Quite simply it was a bit overwhelming after traveling for over 24 hours. But the coaches agreed the trip could not have gone any better from the team perspective...every athlete was on their best behavior and we were extremely proud of their positive attitudes in spite of the lack of sleep.

The quote of the day came from Coach Brent: "I'd pay a $100 for another ice cream sandwich!" (ice cream sandwiches served about 10 hours into the flight, we were all stir crazy and sufferng from airline food fatique).

The photo is of our hotel in Beijing, the Qilo.
